Schubert Die Winterreise
An absolute pinnacle of the Lied repertoire, Schubert’s Winterreise (Winter Journey) is a profound exploration of alienation and human sorrow. In this cycle of twenty-four songs set to poems by Wilhelm Müller and composed in the final years of Schubert’s life, voice and piano do more than merely converse—they walk side by side on a bleak inward journey. Taking on this monumental poetic and musical structure are tenor Allan Clayton and pianist Paul Lewis, both acclaimed interpreters of Schubert’s music.
