German Romantic piano music, represented by its two greatest masters, takes centre stage in Benedetto Lupo’s recital. The first half explores the imaginative world of Schumann, pairing the delicacy of Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood—an adult’s look back at childhood) with the visionary, fragmented surges of Kreisleriana, inspired by the literary character created by E.T.A. Hoffmann. In the second half, the programme delves into Brahms’s late works: the Three Intermezzi, Op. 117, and the Fantasies, Op. 116.
