A programme dedicated entirely to Russian music will be entrusted to Stanislav Kochanovsky, a regular Accademia guest since his 2014 debut. Born in 1981, he boasts in-depth knowledge and experience in the symphonic and operatic repertoires, gleaned during his years conducting at the Mikhailovsky Theatre and the State Safonov Philharmonic Orchestra. He is joined in his Santa Cecilia debut by the very young violinist Maria Dueñas, born in Granada in 2002 and discovered at only 12 years of age by Marek Janowski, who conducted her in a concert from the podium of the San Francisco Symphony in 2014. At Santa Cecilia, the young violinist will perform one of the most beloved pieces in the repertoire, Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto. Written in 1878, the masterfully orchestrated Concerto abounds in melodic inventiveness, and is among the most virtuoso pieces ever written for the instrument.

The programme will open with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, which conquers audiences with brilliant orchestration, folklore, and rich colours and rhythms.

To conclude, we will enjoy Rachmaninoff’s Symphony no. 3. Written in Lucerne between 1935 and 1936, in it we can sense his great melancholy for Russia, which the composer left behind for good in 1917, after the October Revolution
