piano Igor Levit
Beethoven 2027
Beethoven
Sonata op. 2 no. 1
Sonata op. 31 no. 2 “The Tempest”
Sonata op. 79
Sonata op. 53 “Waldstein”
German pianist Igor Levit also pays tribute to Beethoven in his bicentenary year, presenting four sonatas from the composer’s monumental output. The first half moves from the fiery spirit of Beethoven’s vibrant early genius in Op. 2 No. 1 to the mysticism of the famous and tempestuous Op. 31 No. 2, “The Tempest”. The second half opens with the crystalline Sonata Op. 79—dubbed a “Sonatina” by the composer himself—before concluding with the dazzling, monumental architectural perfection of the magnificent “Waldstein” Sonata.
