The Orchestra and Chorus of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia is delighted to announce Daniel Harding as its Music Director.
Daniel Harding succeeds Sir Antonio Pappano, Music Director from 2005 to 2023, who become Director Emeritus. One of the oldest musical institutions in the world, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia boasts a long line of prestigious Principal Conductors and Music Directors, including Igor Markevich, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Daniele Gatti and Myung Whun Chung.
Registrations are open for the third edition of the “Luciano Berio” International Composition Competition organized and promoted by the Santa Cecilia National Academy in collaboration with the Luciano Berio Study Center, Teatro Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Universal Edition (UE).
Reserved for composers under 35, the competition was created with the mission of promoting contemporary music and young composers through the creation and dissemination of new pieces for symphonic orchestra.
To participate in the Competition, two scores must be submitted by 28 February 2026, one for symphonic orchestra, the other with free instrumentation, starting from 3 instruments. It is possible to submit works that have already been performed or published.

"Luciano Berio"
International composition competition
Great success for the second edition of the Luciano Berio International Composition Competition, organized and promoted by the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, in collaboration with the Luciano Berio Study Centre, the Filarmonica della Scala Orchestra, the RAI National Symphony Orchestra, the Teatro Carlo Felice, the Universal Edition (EU) and with the support of SIAE – Italian Society of Authors and Publishers and the Boris Christoff Foundation. The Competition is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions.
The prestigious international jury, chaired by Antonio Pappano, Music Director of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and made of composers Luca Francesconi (Italy), Tania León (United States), Michael Jarrell (Switzerland) and Hilda Paredes (Mexico/UK), after analyzing all the scores submitted, has assigned the First Prize to Enrico Scaccaglia, born in Parma, Italy, in 1989.
Enrico Scaccaglia will be awarded a commission worth 20,000 euros for the composition of an original piece for symphony orchestra which will be performed in world premiere as part of the 2024-2025 Symphony Season of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and will be subsequently included in the programming of the other partner orchestras.
