Dalia Stasevska, the Finnish conductor making her debut at Santa Cecilia, presents works by her compatriot Jean Sibelius, including his most famous symphonic piece, Finlandia – composed in 1899 for a celebratory occasion and later regarded as a sort of second national anthem for the Finnish people – alongside other compositions inspired by Nordic mythology: the Lemminkäinen Legends. The second part features the grand and engaging medieval fresco of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
