In lieu of Maestro Pollini’s concert, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia announces the recital of the American pianist Emanuel Ax, who returns as a guest to Santa Cecilia after an absence of just over five years.
Born in Lviv, Ukraine, and raised in Canada, Emanuel Ax won the prestigious Anton Rubinstein Piano Competition in Tel Aviv in 1974 and has performed with renowned orchestras such as the Berliner and Wiener Philharmoniker and major U.S. orchestras throughout his career. For the Santa Cecilia concert, he will perform a program dedicated to Beethoven, including Sonata No. 2, the “Pathetique” Sonata, Op. 13, and the “Appassionata” Sonata, Op. 57, along with a tribute to Viennese composer Arnold Schönberg (1874-1951), celebrating 150 years since his birth this year. The program includes Three Pieces for Piano, Op. 11, and Six Little Piano Pieces, Op. 19.
