Mozart Symphony No. 41 “Jupiter”
Bruckner Mass No. 3 “Grosse Messe”
Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony, the last and perhaps the most accomplished in his extraordinary catalogue, is regarded as a symbol of classical perfection and owes its well-deserved fame to a unique blend of elements: formal clarity, harmonic richness, and vibrant energy.
In the second half, Bruckner’s Mass No. 3, composed in 1868, expresses the deep religious feeling that pervades the great Austrian composer’s works. Here, Bruckner builds a majestic cathedral of sound, combining rich orchestration with masterful counterpoint and the intense expressiveness of choral passages.
Bridging these two contrasting masterpieces is the energy of Antonio Pappano, in the first of his two concerts of the Accademia’s symphonic season.
