Beethoven Choral Fantasy
Bruckner Symphony No. 3 “Wagner-Symphonie”

As every year, Tugan Sokhiev returns to conduct our orchestra and chorus, presenting two masterpieces of German Romanticism. The evening opens with Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy, a laboratory of ideas in which the composer dares, for the first time, to unite piano, chorus, and orchestra in a hymn to brotherhood — a utopian dream that foreshadows the ideals later fully realized in the finale of the Ninth Symphony. It is followed by Bruckner’s Symphony No. 3, an immense sonic monument and a passionate act of devotion to Wagner, the composer he deeply revered.
