Busoni Piano Concerto
Antonio Pappano, Conductor Emeritus of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, returns to Rome with a 20th-century program full of discoveries. Debussy’s Three Nocturnes, with their floating sonic lines, and Busoni’s unique and challenging Concerto for Piano, Male Chorus, and Orchestra, featuring Ukrainian soloist Vadym Kholodenko. This concerto is “literal” rather than “formal”: each element contributes to the creation of a work whose atmosphere, according to the composer, seeks to represent “a kind of beyond of emotions.”
