piano Andrea Lucchesini
Berio 6 Encores
Liszt Sonata in B minor
Berio Sequenza IV
Chopin 24 Preludes, Op. 28
“A journey of exploration through the known and unknown regions of instrumental color and articulation”—this is how Berio described his Sequenza IV for piano. A definition that could well apply to the entire evening: from the quicksilver flashes of Six Encores to the whirlwind Romantic architecture of Liszt’s Sonata in B minor, culminating in the kaleidoscopic cycle of Chopin’s 24 Preludes. Andrea Lucchesini enjoyed a close artistic relationship with Luciano Berio—whose centenary falls in 2025—making this homage to his teacher and mentor a natural choice. The program pairs Berio’s piano works with two pillars of the Romantic repertoire.
