Seminar Objectives and Duration
In-depth study of the technical/musical aspects of the instrument, with particular attention to breathing techniques. Study of the repertoire from Baroque to contemporary. Particular importance will be given to the preparation of solo orchestra excerpts and to the management of the difficulties that arise in auditions and competitions.
The seminar has a duration of one year and is organized with lessons scheduled approximately between October/November and July. It is structured into monthly sessions, during which each student is entitled to 10 hours of individual instruction, of which up to 3 hours may be conducted with the collaboration of a pianist. Each student may take part in the collective activities that may be organized during the academic year — including mock auditions and end‑of‑year performances held in the halls of the Auditorium Parco della Musica. Students deemed most deserving may be offered opportunities to participate in the artistic activities of the Academy.
Students who have already attended one or two years of the seminar in previous academic years may submit a new application and, if admitted, may attend for a maximum total duration of three years.
Admission to the subsequent year (2nd or 3rd year) is subject to passing the annual entrance examination.
At the end of the first year, a Certificate of Attendance shall be issued, subject to regular participation in at least 70% of the scheduled lessons. At the end of the second or third year, a Certificate of Merit issued by the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia shall be awarded, subject to regular participation in at least 70% of the scheduled lessons.
Please note that no Diploma issued by the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia is awarded for the orchestral specialization seminars.
Auditors
The seminar is open to auditors, subject to the submission of an appropriate academic and/or artistic CV and approval by the seminar instructor.
The attendance fee includes:
- the possibility to audit seminar lessons, with one brief meeting or audition with the instructor during the academic year;
- possible participation in group activities, at the discretion of the instructor.
