Finnish conductor Dalia Stasevska makes her debut at Santa Cecilia with works by her compatriot Sibelius, including his most famous symphonic poem Finlandia, composed in 1899 to celebrate independence from Russia, which includes quotes from Finnish folk melodies, as well as other compositions inspired by Nordic mythology: the Lemminkäinen Legends. The second part features the grand and engaging medieval fresco of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana.
