Weber Oberon: Ouverture
Čajkovskij Piano Concerto No. 1
Dvořák Symphony No. 8
The concert opens with the magical, fairy-tale atmosphere of Weber’s Oberon Overture, the final work by the father of German opera, who — in true Romantic spirit — dreamt of enchanted worlds.
It continues with the drama and passion of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1, performed here by Seong-Jin Cho, whose elegant touch and flawless technique bring this emblem of Romantic pianism to life. With its rhapsodic character, the concerto feels as if it were written in a single burst of impetuous inspiration.
To conclude, Manfred Honeck evokes the joyful lightness and brilliant colors of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8.
