Schumann Symphony No. 1 “Spring”
Debussy Printemps
Zemlinsky Frühlingsbegräbnis
Spring is the season of nature’s awakening, where everything begins, and it has always had an important place in music history. Lorenzo Viotti’s proposed program presents a highly varied triptych of works inspired by this season: the exuberant and festive Symphony No. 1 “Spring” by Schumann, Debussy’s virtuosic Printemps, and The Funeral of Spring by Zemlinsky, a composer from the early 20th century’s “Felix Austria,” considered the spiritual heir of Mahler and Strauss.
