From the silver screen to the great concert tradition: conducted by Juraj Valčuha, the programme opens with the Suite from Vertigo, Bernard Herrmann’s iconic score for Alfred Hitchcock’s film, in which the music plays a decisive role in building tension and suspense as an integral part of the narrative. This is followed by Dvořák’s celebrated Cello Concerto, performed by Ettore Pagano, the young cellist who won the 2026 Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels—the first Italian ever to triumph in the prestigious competition. In the second half, Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, the Russian composer’s last major orchestral work, brings the evening to a close in a burst of rhythmic verve and timbral richness.
