Daniel Harding joins forces with Clara-Jumi Kang for Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2, a work of dense lyricism and serenity. Equally lyrical and evocative is Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun, which brilliantly translates Mallarmé’s poem into music. Brahms’ Second Symphony rounds out the program, where the composer achieves a perfect synthesis of complex syntax and clarity of expression.
