Strauss Don Juan
Strauss Vier letzte Lieder
Brahms Symphony no. 4

In the first half, Daniel Harding conducts two works by Richard Strauss from opposite ends of his creative life: Don Juan (1888), the exuberant tone poem of his youth offering a striking musical portrait of the legendary seducer, followed by the Vier letzte Lieder (Four Last Songs, 1948), widely regarded as the aged master’s spiritual testament—four songs suffused with themes of nature and the transience of life. Rounding off the programme is Brahms’s final symphony, the Fourth, a pinnacle of the late-Romantic repertoire combining rigorous formal architecture with profound expressive intensity.
