The Accademia di Santa Cecilia celebrates the two-hundredth anniversary of Beethoven’s death (1827-2027)

The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia has commissioned a new work from Stefano Gervasoni, one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Italian music, to be given its world premiere by the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia under the baton of Daniel Harding. Its title, Rischiare la Gioia (Risking Joy), eloquently echoes the “Ode to Joy”, the culminating movement of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony—performed in the second half of the concert—in which the Chorus and Soloists sing Schiller’s verses celebrating universal brotherhood and peace among peoples.
