Berg Violin Concerto “The memory of an angel”
Mahler Symphony No. 1 “The Titan”
Once again, Teodor Currentzis and his Utopia Orchestra return to Santa Cecilia for an unmissable concert.
The evening opens with a masterpiece of heartbreaking beauty: Berg’s Violin Concerto, written for the young Manon Gropius, daughter of Alma Mahler, who died at just eighteen, and thus dedicated “to the memory of an angel.”
In the second half comes Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, “Titan” — a tale of a hero’s formation, unfolding through the awakenings of nature, grotesque funeral marches, and a finale that bursts forth as a triumphant cry.
