Johann Strauss II Suite
Eine Nacht in Venedig overture
Vergnügungszug polka
Frühlingsstimmen waltz
Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto No. 1
Šostakovič Symphony No. 5
For health reasons, Mischa Maisky had to cancel his participation in these concerts. In his place, the young Andrei Ioniță will perform, making his debut at Santa Cecilia.
A two-faced concert with Manfred Honeck and Mischa Maisky: from the collective fun of Viennese dances of the Belle Époque, composed by Johann Strauss, to the troubled experiences of a composer active in Soviet Russia, who in his Fifth Symphony expresses self-criticism, though ambiguously and ironically, after facing governmental censure. In the center is Saint-Saëns’ serene and enveloping Cello Concerto, performed masterfully by Maisky.
In collaboration with Palazzetto Bru Zane – Centre de musique romantique française
