The world premiere of Il carro del tempo by young composer Enrico Scaccaglia, winner of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia’s composition competition dedicated to Luciano Berio, opens this concert. Harding then tackles Mahler’s Second Symphony “Resurrection”, the second installment of his complete Mahler symphony cycle. In this monumental work, Mahler explores the cycle of life and the meaning of human existence with emotionally powerful results.
