Berlioz La Damnation de Faust
Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust is a “dramatic legend”, a score that plunges us into the depths of the Romantic soul. We follow Faust in his despair, witness rustic dances and military marches, wander through smoky taverns, and dream of perfect love with Marguerite — culminating in the terrifying “Ride to the Abyss”, one of the most visionary passages ever written.
Guiding us through this whirlwind of sound and vision is Charles Dutoit, a master of the French repertoire, returning to Santa Cecilia after many years.
