Schubert Symphony No. 9 “The Great”
Szymanowski’s Violin Concerto No. 2 is an explosion of light and visionary vitality: a score where Eastern mysticism meets the primal energy of the folk rhythms of the Tatra Mountains, on the border between Poland and Slovakia. A sonic journey steeped in shimmering colors and harmonic sensuality, it transforms solo virtuosity into a collective ritual of overwhelming beauty. Performing the work is one of the greatest violinists of our time: Leonidas Kavakos.
The second half features the vitality of Schubert’s “Great” Symphony, a masterpiece of the composer’s maturity, full of momentum and beauty. On the podium is the Director Emeritus of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Sir Antonio Pappano.
