Stravinky The Firebird suite 1919
For his debut at Santa Cecilia, young Czech conductor Petr Popelka leads the orchestra on a journey across distant styles and continents.
The flight takes off with Martinů’s tribute to the fighter plane Thunderbolt P-47 — pure rhythmic energy — and lands in New York with Gershwin’s Concerto in F, an irresistible blend of symphonic elegance and jazz rhythm, entrusted to the refined touch of Hélène Grimaud.
The program then plunges into the infernal drama of Tchaikovsky’s Francesca da Rimini, a whirlwind of passion and damnation, before being reborn in the magic of Stravinsky’s The Firebird — a Russian fairy tale painted in the most vivid colors.
