Santa Cecilia Tour
Europe 2026
Music Director Daniel Harding is set to embark on a tour across Central Europe with his Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia from March 16 to 20, joined by pianist Daniil Trifonov. Together, they will perform in Budapest (Müpa, March 16), Vienna (Musikverein, March 17), Munich (Isarphilharmonie, March 18), and Hamburg (Elbphilharmonie, March 20).
The soloist and conductor will bring to these stages the same program performed in Rome at Sala Santa Cecilia just days before their departure: Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 and Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7.
A Grammy Award-winning pianist, Trifonov made his debut with the Accademia in 2012 as a breakout star in the Rachmaninoff Gala, and has been a frequent guest ever since. On this occasion, Trifonov takes on Brahms’ Concerto No. 2, a work whose scale and complexity represent a true challenge for any performer. Trifonov is renowned not only for his prodigious technique, which earned him the Gramophone “Artist of the Year” award, but also for his almost ascetic approach to the keyboard. Written at the height of the composer’s maturity, Brahms’ Concerto is a sonic cathedral in four movements, where the piano engages with the orchestra in a dense web of symphonic textures. The evening continues with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7, a masterpiece reflecting the Bohemian composer’s boundless admiration for Brahms. Dvořák, who was a close personal friend of Brahms, composed the Seventh striving to blend German formal rigor with the vibrant colors and rhythms of his homeland.
