His artistic development continued under Antonio Meneses at the Hochschule der Künste in Bern and Enrico Dindo at the Pavia Cello Academy.
In 2014, Cicchese was awarded the prestigious “Premio Giuseppe Sinopoli”, personally presented by the President of the Italian Republic. Over the years, he has been a prizewinner in more than 30 national and international competitions.
He made his solo debut at the age of sixteen, launching a career that has seen him perform as a soloist across Italy, Germany, Turkey, Hungary, Bulgaria, Albania, China, and Japan.
Chosen by Riccardo Muti as principal cellist of the Orchestra Cherubini, Cicchese began performing in major venues and festivals, both as an orchestral musician and as a soloist, under the baton of world-renowned conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Harding, Fabio Luisi, Paavo Järvi, Daniele Gatti, Lahav Shani, Christoph Eschenbach, and Tan Dun.
His artistic collaboration with Tan Dun has led him to appear as soloist with orchestras including the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Shanghai Philharmonic, the China Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Shenzhe Symphony Orchestra, and the MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, performing in prestigious venues such as the Shanghai Grand Theatre, the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, the Leipzig Arena, and the Beethoven Saal in Stuttgart.
Among his most notable solo appearances is his debut at Tokyo’s iconic Suntory Hall, performing alongside Yundi Li and Ryu Goto with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, as part of the hall’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
In parallel with his solo career, Cicchese has won numerous principal cello positions through international auditions, including with the Orchestra of Teatro La Fenice in Venice and the Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, culminating in his 2016 appointment as Principal Cello of the Teatro Regio in Turin, chosen by Gianandrea Noseda, a role he held until 2025.
In 2025, Amedeo reached a major milestone in his orchestral career by winning the position of Principal Solo Cello with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, one of the oldest and most respected musical institutions in the world, selected by the orchestra and its Music Director, Daniel Harding.
During these years, he has also performed as guest principal cellist with leading ensembles such as the Orchestra and Philharmonic of Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Camerata Salzburg, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, and the Orquestra de Cadaqués.
Alongside his concert activity, Cicchese has been passionately dedicated to teaching for over a decade, working with leading Italian conservatories both as a permanent faculty member and as a guest professor for masterclasses and advanced courses. Starting in 2026, he will serve as the Cello Professor at the prestigious Accademia Perosi in Biella, succeeding celebrated cellists such as Antonio Meneses and Daniel Grosgurin, as well as at the Accademia Martha in Palermo,
alongside distinguished colleagues Giovanni Sollima and Massimo Polidori.
For orchestral training, he teaches at the APM School of Saluzzo and serves as tutor of the Pan Caucasian Youth Orchestra, participating since its inception in the renowned Tsinandali Festival in Georgia under the artistic direction of Gianandrea Noseda.
A passionate chamber musician, Cicchese has won prestigious competitions such as the Vittorio Gui International Chamber Music Competition and the Premio Trio di Trieste. He is a founding member of the Trio Laetitia, alongside violinist Daniela Cammarano and pianist Alessandro Deljavan, and together with cellist Paolo Bonomini, he formed the Duo Janigro, a project dedicated to preserving the artistic and musical legacy of Antonio Janigro, one of the most influential cellists of the 20th century.
His artistic development has been enriched through masterclasses with leading cellists such as Frans Helmerson, Maria Kliegel, David Geringas, and Natalia Gutman, and by his distinction at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena, where he was awarded the prestigious Diploma d’Onore, granted by the legendary Alban Berg Quartet.
His discography includes recordings for Brilliant Classics of cello and piano works by Castelnuovo-Tedesco and Pizzetti, in collaboration with pianist Barbara Panzarella, and the complete quintets of Louise Farrenc with the Bottesini Quintet. With Trio Laetitia, he has recorded works by Debussy and Tchaikovsky, earning critical acclaim for their debut album released by the French label Artalinna.
Cicchese is also the Artistic Director of the Festival Janigro, an international event held in Montagano (Italy), the birthplace of Antonio Janigro, which celebrates the artistic and educational legacy of the great Maestro through concerts and masterclasses featuring renowned artists such as Antonio Meneses, Jens Peter Mainz, Natalie Clein, Oliver Herbert, and Suyeon Kang.
He performs on a Joseph Hill cello (1780) and an Annibale Fagnola cello (1904).
